Wipo National Workshop on the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT)
The event was organized by the UAE PTO with the WIPO as to introduce e-pct.
UAE will be a PCT receiving office shortly and the date was not announced yet. A training was held about how to file PCT online via the Demo website.
The workshop’s discussed the main industrial Law amendments
– Introduction of new post grant procedures for patents
– The new law will be more detailed than the previous one
– Designs protection term will be extended to 20 years instead of 10 years.
– Implementation of integrated circuits protection in UAE. The same is 10 years from the filing date and can be filed within 2 years from the commercialization date.
