The approval of new plant varieties law in Bahrain
The Shura Council has approved a drafted law of the protection of new plant varieties law, for issuing a national law to activate the international convention for the protection of new plant varieties. which approved and joined by the Kingdom of Bahrain in 2005 under law No. 12 of 2005. Under this law , the cultivators can register for a 25-year patent for any new plant species that are of excellent, creative, productive and stable nature.
They will also be eligible for a trademark should they opt for commercial production. All the new species cultivated in Bahrain will have to be registered under a name which must be clean and not provocative or contrary to public taste. However, the final approval of the law will be published in next month.
