CONSUMER PROTECTION LAW NO. 15 in UAE
A new consumer protection law 15 of 2020 was enacted on November 10, 2020 revoking therefore the previous law 24 of 2006. The new law aims to improve the consumer protections standards in the UAE market. The implementing regulations related to the new law are not yet issued and the said law is expected to come into force in May 2021.
The new federal law is more comprehensive as it provides broad protection including all goods and services within the seven emirates, all free zones as well as protection standards of electronic commerce transactions supplied by UAE based entities, and data privacy rules. Companies will have a grace period of 1 year to comply with the new law as stipulated in Article 33 of the Consumer Protection Law.
