World IP Day
World Intellectual Property Day is annually and globally celebrated on 26 April and organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) with the purpose to raise awareness of how IP rights impact our daily life and to celebrate creativity and the contribution made by innovators to the development of societies across the globe.
Due to COVID-19 continuing to impact the world, this year, World IP day was virtually celebrated, but celebrating virtually did not made the targeted fun, creativity, inspiration and importance of such Day. However, IP protections are always to inspiring creativity and innovation.
Themed “IP & SMEs: Taking your ideas to market”, this year World IP day highlights the important role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the economy and how IP rights will be used to build more competitive and resilient businesses and looks at how IP assets can drive business economic recovery and human progress; encouraging the world to promote the innovative power of small businesses to create the effective opportunities.
Events all over the world are planned every year to shine the light of the crucial role of IP protection, and this year the target is to demonstrate the role played by the small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in commercializing intellectual properties, to transfer the improvements and creative expressions from being ideas in the mind of inventors into marketable products that are commercialized so the whole world can achieve the targeted benefits.
In addition to draw the attention on the crucial role of SME commercialization efforts, many organizations are also providing the resources to assist in sustaining SMEs and enable them to scale up and launch innovative new products, well-known brands and creative works across the world through supply chains that support various jobs worldwide.
