The Supreme Council having reviewed the recommendation of the Ministerial Council on its (146) preparatory session regarding the findings of the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee at its (112) meeting held in October 2020 and the findings of the permanent committee for officials of legislative departments in the GCC countries at its (18) meeting held in November 2020, has decided the approval of the amended GCC Patent Law; in which some provisions of the GCC Patent Law have been amended.

Accordingly, the complete decision issued in their 41st session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) “Sultan Qabus and Sheikh Sabah Summit” held on 5 January 2021 by the GCC Leaders has been revealed and published in the official Gazette of the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf No. 22.

The provisions of Articles (1, 4, 9, 17- 20, 21, 25, 28- 30, 32, and 33) of the GCC Patent Law have been amended as published in official Gazette of the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf No. 22. Nevertheless, the Implementing Regulations of the said amend law, have not been issued yet, we are following up the matter closely with the officials at the GCC Patent Office with regard to the issuance of the Implementing Regulations so that all the amendments will be further clarified.
