Issuance of New Industrial Law in United Arab Emirates
A new law 11 of 2021 has been issued as to replace the previous industrial law 17 of 2002. The new industrial property law aims to protect industrial property and regulate the procedures for its registration, use, exploitation and assignment, in order to ensure support for knowledge and innovation in the country, and works to enhance the state’s competitiveness in the field of industrial property rights in accordance with international best practices.
The new law applies to patents, industrial designs, integrated circuits, undisclosed information, and utility certificates registered in the state, including free zones. The implementing regulations are not yet issued. Further updates will be shared once affected. Hence, the old law is still applicable until the issuance of the implementing regulations.
